I wrote out a bit of a rant about this the other day, this seems like a good place to leave it... :)
I feel like EA made me choose which Sims game I wanted to keep installed when they introduced patch 1.69. At the moment:
• 1 click gets me to my saved games - I have no inclination to go from this to going through Orgin, & then through the launcher before I can play. Strike 1.
• I use buy debug *a lot* when I'm building - reports say it's broken for some with 1.69. Strike 2.
• As above, but for CAW. I'm not giving up on CAW! Strike 3.
All of this would have been fine if I hadn't heard of Origin stealth-patching people's games - even when all the options for automatic updating were turned off. So, given the choice of keeping Origin installed & worrying about it 'updating' my favourite game when I wasn't looking; or uninstalling Origin so I can play TS3 in peace, I went with option 2.
Thing is, I'm a Simmer. Whilst I might not play TS4 at the moment, I hadn't ruled out *ever* playing it. Just because it doesn't appeal to me now, doesn't mean that it never would. Only now, I'm not willing to even try it out; at least, not on my main gaming PC. Origin is uninstalled & whilst 1.69 is still a 'threat', it will remain so.
So, however much I might be intrigued by some parts of City Living, I won't be buying it. EA made me choose, & I chose the older game. I'm just one person, of course, so it means nothing in the grand scheme of things; but in trying to tie me into Origin, they just succeeded in driving me further away from potential further purchases. Good job, EA! :/
