EA you are violating your own terms
If you have not updated your game past 1.67 don't buy anymore stuff packs or sets for Sims 3. EA is forcing update if you do. I bought 2 stuff packs and was not able to install them unless I updated...

I suspect the store content that you download now doesn't need the content patches because it seems to have already been updated by EA to not need the content patches.
BUT it seems to me, if you want to use your previously downloaded and backed up store content from before they updated it to not need the patch, you will need the content patches in your Sims 3 folder.
The Content Patch is still needed it updates several things for Seasons, fixes items that where miscategorized and among other things. I've looked inside some of the Store Items that are fixed by the Content Patch and those files where never updated inside the sims3pack.
People with patch 1.69 get the Content Patch but you'll find it in the Program files.
