There isn't any way a disc manufactured in 2009 could have files on it with 2012 modification dates. That was a good observation and is not something any of us would have thought of to ask. Is it all possible that what you have there is a post-Sept 2012 install disc for the base game, which would indeed require Origin exactly as you have described, that got inserted into the 2009 packaging at some point way after you had acquired it?
yes there is, when they saw how great it was selling, they modified the files to include Origin
I may have been mistaken, I have the discs of all the Sims 3 games, and thought for sure I purchased the game in store right away, but
maybe in my haste I purchased it from Origin.
I remember playing Sims 2 and the Sims 3 open world commercial came on & I said I have to get that, so I may have purchased it on Origin & got the disc in store later.
edit: Either way I'm screwed, no matter how many discs I have because can't install without installing Origin.
