  • So, I realize this post is ancient, and by now probably most Simmers have moved on to Sims 4. However, during this COVID crisis I have gotten back into Sims 3, and experienced the exact same problem! I came upon this post while searching for a solution, but ended up solving it myself. Posting the solution here in case any other Sims 3 player runs into the same problem.

Step 1: Acquire a Potent Cure Elixer and use on the broken mermaid. (Mine kept his scaly legs but swam like a normal sim. He also somehow kept the elixer. This may be because I had already bought the Permanent Mermaid LTR for him.)

Step 2: Acquire Mermadic Kelp and eat it. (If you don't want to go through the hassle of finding a mermaid while diving and keeping their attention long enough to ask about their fish parts, I feel that using the cheat to get enough lifetime happiness points to buy the kelp is totally justified, considering you're having to fix a terrible glitch.)

Step 3: avoid traveling abroad with this Sim! (Or, keep a Potent Cure Elixer and a piece of Mermadic Kelp on hand somewhere for emergencies.)

And that's it! And remember.... Just keep Simming! Just keep Simming! Haha!
