Same thing happens when the Burglar Alarm goes off and your sim beats up and chases the burglar away before the police show up. It's not like the police actually do anything when the burglar is there when they do get there :/
I know it can be modded but since I usually play evil sims I haven't done so cause it gives my sim an excuse to kick the Service NPC Cops butt if I see them around town >:)
