FINED?! A penalty for this?!

Picture this:
1. My sims put on a fire on a cold, winter night and started watching tv after putting the baby to bed.
2. Said fire begins burning out of control! The father, grandmother and grandfather all simultaneously extinguish the flames as the alarm blares.
3. Flames are gone, and insurance has given money (pittance if you ask me) to cover the damages.
4. Firemen arrives to assist. Good sign, right? WRONG.
5. Aforementioned firemen claims it was a false signal, and I am charged 500 dollars.

LOL! In all my years of playing I didn't know that a. you could falsely set off an alarm (or I guess call emergency services?) and b. actually be charged!

Join me in my laughing, won't you?

  • It's amazing the capacity this game still has to surprise. The problem was your super efficiency in getting the sims to deal with the fire. It does create a false alarm if the fire is out by the time the fireman gets to your house. Mind you they are always tardy just like the police. My sim has usually duffed up the burglar by the time the boys (or girls to be equally fair) in blue are at the door. Lets hope next time, and there will be a next time considering how faulty sim wiring is, you can stand watching the fire burn a little longer. Never heard of a fine before so thanks for sharing :)
  • I've often had the problem of my sims being fined after putting out a fire at home - but the last time they had a fire at home several things happened that surprised me.

    1. The fire started in a bar-b-que that was outside so the house was safe - at first.
    2. Both sims who were at home at the time were cowards and fainted - one fainted right next to the flames
    3. The magic gnomes were in a bunch right next to the flames and were surrounded by flames for a while but all jumped away to safety eventually
    4. The teens of the household were at school when the fire started and wouldn't come home or call the fire dept until after school was over
    5. Townies turned up and stood around the fire and panicked - lots of townies did this in the end
    6. One townie was carrying a toddler and walked into the fire with the toddler in his arms - eventually walked back out again and put the toddler on the ground some distance away from the flames
    7. The sim who had fainted near the flames caught on fire and she stood up so I directed her to extinguish herself in the shower - she managed to do that and then left for work without doing anything about calling the fire dept or trying to extinguish the flames
    8. One townie sim turned up and started extinguishing the flames just as the teens called the fire department from school - but before working on the fire she firstly extinguished a sim who had caught alight and that took ages to put him out.
    9. Fire was put out by the household teens and one townie
    10. Fire engine and one fireman arrived to smoke and a huge collection of still panicking townies - to my surprise no fine was issued but the fireman stayed to enjoy the company of the numerous townies who started to go home once there was no more fire
    11. The second sim who had fainted eventually recovered from his fright once the fire was out - the thing that surprised me was there had been a birthday cake fire inside the house a few days previously and this same sim had first of all run outside to escape the fire but then returned to extinguish it himself.
  • Many many moons ago, when I was in 6th or 7th grade my mom was frying something on the stove, and the pan caught on fire. She was freaking out, so I threw some baking soda on it, and put the lid on the pan, and the fire went out eventually. But not before filling the house with smoke. I guess one of the neighbors called the fire department. They were right down the street, so they showed up pretty quickly. They didn't fine us, but they did hook up a big fan to suck all the smoke out of the house.

Then a couple of years later, when we were moving out, my parent's waterbed caught on fire and nearly burned down the house.
  • How the heck does a waterbed catch...you know what, never mind! o:)

Edit: Sorry, I realize it was probably the heater and I hope no one was hurt, but for some childish reason this struck me as funny. :/
  • That's OK. It strikes me as funny too, even after all these years. Even though lot of my stuff got ruined by the smoke. Like I said, we were moving. Everybody was living at the new house, but we still had a lot of our stuff at the old house.
