There is nothing wrong with playing this game on a laptop, it's just that laptops require stronger components than desktops do to get the same or similar performance out of them.
There is also nothing wrong with having an SSD/HDD combo. But how large (in GBs) is this SSD? If it is too tight on space, then the game should have been installed on the HDD instead and the user Documents folder in its entirety, thus including the user game folder, should have been redirected at the Windows level to the HDD also. If 128 GB or smaller, both of the above practically become a necessity to allow Windows the space it needs to operate on that SSD. If 256 GB it's almost a toss-up although there will still be frequent struggles to keep enough free space going, if the SSD is larger than that then the entire install and Documents folders could have stayed on the SSD.
I cannot answer the Win 10 "less bloat" streamlined option question but sounds like that wouldn't make much difference here. Paging a Win 10 expert for more assurance.
