Katie was delighted by her healthy, stripey filly, but when she showed her to Bill, he burst out laughing. "What's so funny?"
"Did she walk into the stall door? Look at her eye!"
Katie looked and had to laugh too. On the left, Sundance had the pale skin of her sire, but on the right, she had very marked, black 'eyeliner'. It really did look rather like someone had socked her one.
Sundance wasn't the least bit concerned; she was much more interested in playing with Harvest Moon, who was himself delighted to have a friend his age.
One frosty afternoon, Katie went over to the fairgrounds for the autumn festival. One of the main highlights, both in ads and by word of mouth, was the haunted house. Katie went there first . . . the results were not what she expected!
So she went to bob for apples, because that's what you do when you've become a ghost. (Do ghosts catch ectoplasmic apples?)
When it started to rain, she went to get some food, and was surprised to meet a familiar face! "Bill!, What are you doing here?"
"I got a job, finally. I wasn't expecting to see you here tonight! If you can wait 'til I get off, maybe we can go eat together?"
They had a delightful diner in town, and when Katie got home she found that Harvest Moon had grown up while she was out. The next morning, after a family picture, she gave Blue Moon a last hug and returned her to her owner. The farm had earned $6500 in stud fee and boarding expenses. The young stallion would remain until he was trained, then be rejoined with his mother at the head scientist's home.
