Training with Edsel was going almost too well; he learned everything so readily that Katie was afraid she'd have to sell him before she was ready to let him go. But two stallions were more than the farm needed. Meanwhile, her own local fame was increasing, and she'd been asked to try out a new restaurant. So she took a break from training and rode the young stallion on a roundabout route to 'downtown' (or at least what Riverview called downtown).
The meal was actually very good, so she set about her assigned task of recommending it to at least three new potential patrons. Although evening had set in, there were plenty of people around. As a bit of a joke, the first person she talked up about the restaurant was one of the Paparazzi who tended to plague her household. She'd not be well able to afford a meal, but neither could she dismiss the recommendation. Perhaps she'd add it to her expense account. The next person she talked to turned out to be a vampire - oops!
She made it home safely, and the next morning, in spite of the rain, Kevin picked out the new mare's hooves and rode Blondie to the autumn festival. Soon after, Katie followed on Edsel. Bill preferred to stay home and train Smokey.
They arrived home to find that Eliza Pied had grown up. Her mother congratulated her, at least.
Katie went to do a bit of inventing but things got a little too hot for her.
Bill got dressed up and went to the fish hatchery to try to woo the local unicorn. Such a magical mare, she was!
He came home to find the sink broken and had an uninvited audience while he repaired it. Welcome back to reality!
Edsel was now fully trained, and regretfully Katie took him down to sell. He brought a record $12,000! The next mare arrived with an unexpected bonus. They'd contracted for a splashed-white paint mare, who was well known on the eventing circuit. But her breeders dropped her off with her untrained sister. "She was born all-white with blue eyes, and we thought at first she was lethal white, even though the parents tested clear. But then she didn't die, and her nose and legs got dark hair on them. We couldn't sell her as a paint, but you can have her to breed as a grade mare." The didn't want her back; didn't want her associated with their farm at all. Bill and Katie weren't thrilled with the reaction, but at least the breeders hadn't killed the unusual filly out of hand. The Sparrows named her Siamouse, because of her pointed coloring and meek temper, and turned her and her sister Splash out into the field. Electrum was pleased to see both mares, regardless of color.
