Newly adult Kevin and Smokey celebrated early in the morning with a rousing game of tug. Little did they know it was going to be a disastrous day.
After the sun rose, Katie went out to visit another celebrity. She might not have wanted to be famous, but if it could be used to help the fight against trypanosomiasis, she'd make use of it. The gnomes gathered for a conference . . .
. . . and Bill woke up dead. He was very surprised, to say the least, but he shortly had a visitor that enforced the reality of his new state.
Kevin and Smokey ran up the stairs, but it was too late. Bill and the Grim Reaper vanished, and only an urn was left.
Katie, who had discovered that her new acquaintance was a vampire, was unaware of Bill's death as yet. Suddenly she aged to an elder - not a welcome event while in the house of a predator. The urgent call from Kevin gave her a perfect excuse to leave.
Meanwhile sorrow spread around the farm. The cows didn't care, but as rain started to pour down, the gnomes gathered for a memorial service, and the horses grieved.
Blondie offered a counter to the sorrow: Jaune d'Or.
Smokey was particularly heartbroken, as Bill had been his best friend. Kevin consoled him as well as he could, and sent him out to hunt, which usually cheered the dog up. Jaune d'Or was a curious onlooker, at least until the last command. Apparently hunting wasn't to her taste.
