Wren was thrilled with the new addition to the herd; what little girl wouldn't love to have her own unicorn? Engus greeted the mare with curiosity.
Katie didn't bother with training Misty - it seemed rude, somehow. But Engus had people waiting on him so she pressed on through the dark cold.
Winter wasn't all bad though. Wren woke up one morning to find school closed because of the snow, and spent most of the day building snowmen in the yard.
Her father preferred to work on his sculpting.
Later, Wren played with Binky in her treehouse, which a touch of genie magic (courtesy of Everett) had made as snug as the main house.
And one evening Mary foaled for real: a filly, as Katie had dreamed, not quite the same appearance but still unstriped. She was named Emily, after the dream-filly.
Kevin rode Rose over to visit, and while he played with Wren and talked to his parents, the red dun mare reacquainted herself with Electrum and the rest of the herd.
Emily grew up. The family was rather disappointed with her final appearance, but outcrosses often looked odd. The fact that Engus had turned out so well provided an unfortunate contrast. Her mother's odd black blaze had grown out white, but the rest of her was oddly patchy and mismatched. Her blood tests were good though, and Mary's owner seemed happier with her looks than the Sparrows were. And she did have a truly sweet temper.

Engus was sent on at last, leaving Emily as the sole offspring; Katie hoped Misty would soon offer a better example of Electrum's get. They had been searching for a Fjord mare in white or yellow dun, but having little luck finding a breeding-worthy one. The cream-based colors were rarer than the standard duns. They had finally located a white (buckskin) dun mare named Fern and were negotiating with her owners to lease or buy her. But meanwhile, there was Emily to train and a new foal to anticipate - possibly a unicorn?

Emily got born twice because I forgot to keep up my saves. Katie set herself on fire again jumping Engus and then glitched; every command to dismount and jump in the pool vanished from the queue and she kept riding until she turned to an ash heap. Then the game crashed, and when I restarted I discovered I'd lost over a week of game time, including the first Emily, through lack of saving. Then for some reason the game slapped a Fjord mane on the second one when she matured, which honestly looked better on her than the zebra mane she should have had. (I didn't change the mane; I took her into 'Edit Saddle' to change tack and save her for export and the mane changed automatically.) Either way I think she's down at the bottom of the list appearance-wise.
