Everett was enjoying his diving, exploring the local scuba park. One cave turned out to be occupied, and he immediately headed in a different direction!
There were an assortment of relics underwater, many marked with discreet tags that identified them as park property. The chests, on the other hand, could be emptied, if a diver could open them. This time he found a chest he could open and claimed a gem and an ancient plate. In a day or two, he knew, the chest would mysteriously be full again, just as in the tombs he'd explored in Egypt and France.
Adam the flatcoat had settled in well, and adored the hotdog toy Wren had bought him at the pet store.
Gilty Spots was sleeping in the frost as often as in a stall, but he seemed to take no harm from it.
Best of all, Bonfire seemed to have finally mellowed out in response to dedicated training. She was playing nicely with the other horses and Adam, friendly to humans (and genies) and courting Electrum herself. (New foal on the way!)
Spooky Day rolled around with a flurry of crisp nights, and Wren decided to be an alien this year. The evil gnome became possessed by a local ghost and alarmed a neighbor who saw him hovering and shaking. Afterward, the ghost fed Gilty a bottle. (!)
Everett was still stalking the wild purple dun mare, whom he had named Violet. Apples in the moonlight were a powerful argument for the friendliness of two-legged creatures.
A week after Spooky Day, Bonfire gave birth to Ember, a lovely dark charcoal-brown filly, with her dam's fiery mane and hooves, and two white stockings from her sire. While Katie admired the new arrival, Bonfire snorted and shied, and Katie looked up to see a herd of guests beyond the fence, including the local unicorn.
So for a while they could enjoy the antics of two foals again, colt and filly. Although neither was striped, they were certainly striking!
