Violet had a busy day greeting everyone in her new home. Fortunately, the feral horses weren't particularly 'wild' as a lot of people put out treats or took pictures of them, so she wasn't greatly concerned about now living in close proximity to humans (or genies). But the equine members of the new family were her immediate interest.
She settled in remarkably quickly and soon got with Electrum to arrange for foal twenty-nine.
Marie Curie called the next day, to let Katie know she had located a gulblakk Fjord mare. Genetically palomino dun, they tended to look nearly white, with pale yellow eelstripes and leg markings. This mare would give the Sparrows one of every approved color of Fjord, as well as the secretly Fjord bay mare. Katie was delighted, and the day after Violet's 'date' with Electrum, Mari showed up with Ecru.
Mare number thirty, the last of the Moonlight Falls band. The vampire population had been increasing rapidly for several months, and Katie and Everett were honestly ready to leave. When your daughter comes home from school complaining that sixteen of her twenty-one classmates are now vampires, it tends to unsettle you. But Wren was more interested in the family pets than vampiric classmates, even sneaking out of bed to tell them goodnight.
Everett was taking the lead with the new mares, training them both himself. Violet, of course, had no prior saddle training, and Ecru had been green-broke and then rather a pasture ornament for several years, so he wanted her in better shape before breeding her. Like a lot of Fjords, she was both an easy keeper and a greedy pig around food.
Pansy's arrival was completely unexpected. He saddled Violet, and had to step away for a phone call that took longer than expected. . . and came out to a damp newborn. The ride for the day was cancelled, of course! Pansy mostly resembled her dam, but Electrum's pink eyepatch had once again shown up in giant version on the off side.
Pretty in purple!
