While all the humans (and genies) and animals were doing quite well, Marcie was having problems. Over and over she was shorting out, and as often as Katie repaired her, she'd short out again almost immediately. She actually lost her first job as a Games Programmer over it! Finally Katie and Everett decided that perhaps an expert touch was needed, and called a repair shop. They assured the Sparrows that they had an expert in Simbot repair and would send her right out. The gawping that the repairwoman did on arrival wasn't terribly reassuring, but perhaps her customers usually brought their faulty 'bots in to the shop? But she also didn't know the correct names for some of her tools. "I'm getting a bad feeling about this," murmured Katie to her husband. Then ZZZAAPP! In a shower of gold and blue sparks the repairwoman collapsed on the floor! The Grim Reaper materialized in front of their eyes and raised a ghost from the corpse before sealing the body in an urn. The sparking and twitching ghost floated off through the wall, and after a long moment of staring at each other, Katie started repairing Marcie again, while Everett pulled out his phone to inform the repair shop why their technician wouldn't be reporting back that day.
Fortunately, since Binky had that part-time job at the graveyard, they didn't have to figure out what to do with the urn. He took it in to the mausoleum and left it until repairwoman's family called for it. But, apparently the discharge or something the woman had twiddled seemed to have done the trick, as Marcie had no more problems with short-circuiting and was able to get her old job back.
Meanwhile, Zipper was growing nicely and really loving Adam and the other horses. He met Marabella, who taught him to roll under his mother's watchful eye.
The family added a pool in the front portion of the yard, starting to landscape the non-horse areas of the property.
Wren had improved her riding enough to enter a race. Electrum hadn't run for a while, but his experience and her enthusiasm combined to give a winning performance.
Everett aided Binky with his homework on a night off, then sat down to read the paper. He was a bit startled to read that Everett and Katie Sparrow were announcing the arrival of a new baby boy. "Dear, is there something you forgot to tell me?"
Katie blinked at the printed announcement, then laughed. "The only babies around here have four legs, honey, I swear!"
The rainy season was rolling back around, leading to improved weather for work and planting. Katie took Electrum out for some long rides, considering getting him back into shape to run some International-level races. Zipper played so hard that they found the foal collapsed in the tack room for a nap. And more landscaping was down around the house, as the grass planted out front slowly spread.
And the horses grazed with the rain pattering on their backs.
