The nraas mods seem to be reliable and handy. Look up "nraas story progression" or "nraas master controller" on the net, you'll find it, and all of his other one's, just about everyone uses them.
My favourite clothing site is All About Style. She is very detailed and keeps right up to date with all the RL fashions, including outfits that RL celebrities have worn on the red carpet, and some period clothing, that is of past era's. When we had the sims 2, her stuff was the tidiest, loveliest and never bugged, unlike SOME sites.
However, I've only ever dl'd a few CC things because I have enough variety to CaS from the game, with a bit of thought. I have a custom default skin eyes that I got off of Mod The Sims. The eyes are better than in game but I don't see all that much difference with the skin. The skin and eyes were heavily advertised, like a featured download, with lots of fancy pictures. If Sussisogood was still around I bet her's would be the best. Alas, she's not :(
