Glass Floor/Ceiling Tiles Please!

This has really been a need in the game for awhile. Since Seasons came out, a lot of builds with "sky lights" are now useless as weather will come inside your house through what amounts to holes in your roof. If we had these clear floor tiles (and I'd like to see clear wall covering, too) we could have skylights back.

This is the one CC object that really tempts me. I am CC free as far as build/buy and I want to keep it that way since I so often build for upload and don't want to pass along CC to other players.

No worries, Zoo! It's one of the few CC objects that's tempted me too, but like you, I'm dedicated to staying CC free. So we need EA to come through for us on this. :wink:

Argh, a bit of bad news from SimGuruGraham's tweet today:

".@SimmerHortensis No technical reason we don't have glass floors, although they are a bit tricky. As I'm sure you're aware, lighting in Sims 3 doesn't cast across different floors. Glass ceilings/floors can feel somewhat fiction breaking without some sort of light casting through them, so the challenge becomes faking some appropriate lighting. We're aware people want them, and we've wanted to make them... if I remember correctly they were originally being worked on for Late Night and got cut, and we also originally had them in the plans for Island Paradise but got cut. IP is going to be a really feature rich pack for builders though, so hopefully that doesn't sting too badly. I think there's still a good chance Glass Floors will make it in-game someday."

At least they definitely know that we want them, and it sounds like we *almost* got them in IP. I wish they'd take a look at what the modders did, since they were able to make glass floors that let the light through; no need to reinvent the wheel.

Okay, so I guess we're not getting them yet, but I'm still holding out some hope we'll get them eventually... Not letting light through wouldn't bother me too much- you can always place some of the invisible lights that came wih World Adventures IIRC (I LOVE THOSE THINGS! I USE THEM AL(L OVER THE PLACE!). They could simply include those lights with the floors in this pack for people who don't have the WA EP. But, I guess, given the choice, I'd rather wait and get a better product than get a half baked glass floor- or half baked ANYTHING for that matter- now.

I've used the CC tiles and they work really well if you only want flat floors/ceilings, but they don't CFE well; for example, I made a "glass skylight" in the shape of a pyramid on top of my History Museum, and the glass floor "rugs" stay flat instead of sloping with the floor. It ended up looking like something from "The Jetsons" cartoon. :lol:

And I too prefer to stay CC-free nowadays, since everything always has to be pulled out and checked with every patch and EP now. It's such a hassle, and it just seems to happen every month, anymore... I finally gave up CC late last year, so yes, it would be really nice to have a "supported" (This is EA, so I use the term loosely, of course...) glass floor tile, and glass walls too. (I could add a half dozen other wishes too, but I don't want to COMPLETELY hijack your thread! :wink: )

I have Inge Jones' glass floors and because of this, every house of mine has a skylight. :mrgreen: She is a genius! I respect those builders who want to remain cc-free but I couldn't resist, they are really great for skylights and makes the Stones Throw Greenhouse legit...no weather coming in.

If anyone is pro cc, this is a definite item to include in building.
