This thread caused me to have a dream that my sim married his fridge, who gave birth to his father.

Does that make him his own Grandpa?

LOL, I heard what must have been an earlier version of that song for the first time on a car radio. Good thing I was a passenger (not old enough to drive yet, I think) because I probably would have wrapped the car around a tree trying to figure that out without the TS2 visuals. :p

It was Lonzo and Oscar who performed it for the first time. Ray Stevens did a cover. Either one is absolutely hilarious.
  • @bklienhart LOL, that song is hilarious :D And the video very well done (indeed, quite handy to keep up).

I actually set that up once in Sims 3. The family tree just shows up normally, depending on which side you're looking at. It ignores all that "husband of my father's wife's mother" stuff.

And speaking of alternative family styles, my current family is a bit unusual. My current sim, Heidi, is trying to earn the "win all 3 horse racing trophy" statues. On the side, she learned robotics, and built a robot, Goth 03 to help around the house. The robot bought a limitless learning chip, learned robotics, and built a sentience chip and a capacity to love chip. Then they fell in love and got married. In a wild fit of curiosity, I used Master Controller to have Heidi have a baby, Dwight, with Goth 03. That didn't turn out so well, and I eventually used MC to get rid of all the weird traits Dwight had. But Heidi is both married to and creator of Goth 03, and Goth 03 is a sibling and step-parent of Dwight. Goth 03 also has 2 robot offspring that I gave sentient chips and released into the wild. So a plumbot has the Founder of Plumbotics legacy.

  • LOL, yeah, Sims is ideal for funny relationships, your situation is very comparable to the song :D My next heir's halfsister by the way - he's still a kid at this moment - is also his cousin, because her father is the son of my heir's father. I haven't looked yet how the game treats that situation.
  • It just shows the half-sibling and ignores the cousin relationship.
  • In my game at the moment, Mortimer Goth keeps flirting with his son's wife all the time when Bella isn't around.

EDIT- Bella is dead, but I decided to move him out as he was getting on my nerves
  • Many years ago I had an extensive Steel family and I tried to get two first cousins to date. The game simply wouldn't let me. After that I stuck to marrying my sims outside the family. In the UK marriage between first cousins is permitted certainly in civil (and therefore legal) ceremonies. I concluded therefore that as most of Western Europe does not permit marriage between first cousins and in many states of the USA it is illegal, EA had decided not to allow it in game. I am therefore wondering if there is a glitch in the OP's game ? If not it may be a case of keeping a sheet of paper with the full family tree so you can check for yourself that the relationship is appropriate according to the way you were brought up. No doubt some clever person could come up with a database to do the same thing. Alternatively you could always marry outside the family and that way you are keeping the gene pool fresh just as you would in real life.

In the past I have found that at times I found in Sims 3 that if a (living) family gets 'too big' the game will cut off family ties... Anyway... The Sims is playing with life, so... We just need to play with life a bit to turn things around so our sims aren't with sims we don't want them with; unlike real life we don't just have to 'deal with it' ... Thankfully

Really? Just curious what the game will consider too big then? Because it never happened to me and there’s a lot of family walking around in my world. I think the family tree can cope because it never shows every family connection at once (you’ll have to click on the icons of the sims in it to see other connections). To me it only happens when I move sims to other worlds and I can repare that now that I have NRaas MC.

Idk might have just been my computer and sims 3 game hating on me... But was playing with my favorite sim from Sims 3, in Sunset Valley and she had a number of children, I had aging off cause I wasn't anywhere near done playing with her for her to grow old and I guess it is/ was b/c she had so many children in town one of them, a male, invited to a party and Zelda showed unwelcomed interest in him; when I checked it no longer showed/ displayed him as her child. However this may have been that I had kept her as young adult and so was he via cakes and wasn't living the home for a while... So may have been caused by more than just having a 'big family' lol... Wasn't a big deal to me, for the record but it was weird and stuck out to me, so never forgot...

Another possiblity might be that it was a clone, not her actual child (but in that case your sim would have two of them in their relationship panel and the original kid would still be in the family tree). Oh well, Sims 3 is always full of surprises isn’t it :D Do you have Mastercontroller? I’m so in love with the ability to repair family ties, it’s something I’ve always longed for in the past (because I often change worlds with my family which makes them lose their relationships - when you move them in seperate households).

No, none of that extra stuff.
But it makes sense-- can't have too have too many living sims who are related I guess, so it makes sense in that way. But old news now lol...
