Insane painter needs help!

Is there any way to stop terrain paints from fading into the lot's base terrain at the edges of the paint? It's driving me insane that I'm trying to use a dark soil but near the edges it's white sand because that's the base. Even if I paint the entire area with, say, grass, they both edge out to white sand :/
