Interesting Tricks (No Cheats Allowed)

I tried looking for a thread like this, but didn't find one. I just did something interesting in my game and it worked. In a way it was cheating, but I didn't use a cheat to do it. Anybody else have any non-cheating tricks to share.

My sim was in the library. I didn't think she was that hungry when I sent her, but she was very hungry a short time later and stopped studying. I took the screen back to the house, opened the fridge, moved a meal platter to her inventory, told her to grab a plate, then put the platter back in the fridge. She's fed without having to go home.

These are great, gonna try almost all them while playing today.

i am going to try these as well when I have time to play on sims.
  • @cwaddell Regarding university, I have my sims listen to tabcasts related to their major while they do unrelated activities during the week, and dreaming about academics in the dream pod from ITF will keep their academic progress from decaying while they sleep. Between the two of them, I have been able to keep a sim on the dean's list 24/7 once they get on it, even when they spend their time between and after classes de-stressing with activities unrelated to their major. This can also help them get social influence faster by having them play arcade games, table tennis, etc, while they listen to tabcasts. However, they can't listen to a tabcast while they chat with other sims, use certain electronics, or use water, as in swim, shower, or wash their hands. So if you want them to keep their grades up with tabcasts, you have to keep watch for anything that makes the tabcast stop. And of course, you also have to pay attention and restart tabcasts when they finish. For some skills, that means when they gain a skill point, while others will play for a specified time regardless.
  • I use the brain machine's 'study brain' for my sims to gain Nerd levels. It works pretty fast and I use that for my sims to get their social group trait quickly. I had a household of teens get their social group trait from using the brain machine over the course of a single day. I was using Relativity at 19 which probably had something to do with it but regardless I find it the easiest way to gain social group levels.

The Opportunistic LTR doubles opportunity rewards. That includes visa points from WA adventures. Add in the Prepared Traveler LTR and at least 5-6 Potent Invigorating Elixirs (so, no need to sleep) and my sims can often get visa level 3 on their first trip to a WA world.

University jobs are also opportunities. With the Opportunistic LTR sims will get double the money from day jobs. I'll have my sim look for the Organ Donation one on all of the job boards around town and make money that way at university. The Organ Donation usually pays 3500 and with the Opportunist LTR it pays 7000 simoleons. Each job board seems to have it's own day job list and my sims can usually pick up between 1-4 Organ Donation jobs a day. Possibly relevant though: that's with Traveler installed which I recently learned affects the job boards in some way according to the mod's revision notes.

When I want a sim so learn a skill level quickly (particularly levels 9 and 10) I'll have them listen to the tabcast for that skill while reading the same skill book at the library. I don't think it's my imagination - they do seem to learn faster than just reading alone.
  • It's not exactly an exploit, but almost all of my sims that are self-employed do their work outside (I don't have Seasons). They get the Loves the Outdoors trait, usually at birth (since other traits I want for them might be unavailable until later), so they have an almost constant "one with nature" moodlet while working and learning a new skill. They can also share an upgraded stereo. Add bonuses for fun, clothing, and maybe some decorations, and they can max their moods even without a perfect meal, although they'll likely get one anyway.

Somewhat more exploitative is the fact that I leave toddlers outside on the back porch for the same reason. Many of them already have the Loves the Outdoors trait, since other traits I might want for them are unavailable until later in life. They learn life skills faster when they're happy, and I really like to get that stuff done quickly. It's pretty easy to keep their moods maxed out when it's time to pay attention. I used to feed them with the high chair and blender, but that takes time out of my adult sims' busy days. My way is much simpler and I stand by it, despite some finger wagging that's been thrown my way.

Just a side note, it turns out that if you have both a cheap and an expensive washing machine, your sims often get moodlets from both. It might be necessary to have one but not both machines on the delicate cycle, but I often see the "fresh clothing" and "very fresh clothing" moodlets on the same sim.

If it's just your imagination, then mine is fooling me too. LOL!
  • The only thing I can think of is to buy and use the All-in-one bathroom. It takes the sim so long to shower, especially in the mornings before work. So you send them to the All-in-one and presto! they are clean and ready. They don't change clothes but they always change right before they leave the house when they are going to work.

I love all of these ideas! Got to write some down.
  • @Karritz Oh, I'll try that as soon as I get a genie! :p

@CravenLestat If I were a sim I would never ever sleep! B) :joy:

What I like doing a lot is actually quite finicky and can cause awful bugs on older computers (like the one I'm typing at now), but my new one handles it relatively well.

I'll usually buy a birthday cake and place it in my sim's inventory. Then, when they go to a party I know they'll be at for a while, I'll have them cut the cake (which also "gets people into the party spirit"), and take a slice. Then, when they're done eating, I just age them down again. I only do this with young adult sims, however, as with teens or younger, where they gain traits etc, even my new computer has issues.

Maybe this just goes to show that I invest too much time in minute little details...? :#
