Is an FPS higher than your refresh rate harmful?

For your computer and such. If the only problem is screen tearing, which I am yet to experience, then I don't think I shall use V-sync. I've just heard people said that they have fried their graphics ...

Thankyou for all the info! Just to confirm though, I wouldn't mess up or damage anything if I played with reshade? I personally find the default colours of the game kinda drab, so I'd want to play around with a few things on top of sharpening.
