Is the exchange safe? What about The Sims Resource? What are some good cc sites?

I was a huge cc addict during my Sims 2 years and periodically had a membership to TSR and to a couple other sites. I did get a virus one time that I believed came from an ad on TSR (so probably during a period I wasn't subscribed). There was no adblock then (as far as I know). There were some very nice creations (and some not as good, depending on the creator and I suppose tastes), and I never had any problem with their downloads at all.
