Lack of Sims 4 excitement making me rethink Sims 3

In EA's defense, we have always had these types of packs, going back to Sims 1, when they released a slew of skins from Command & Conquer Renegade and SSX Snowboarding. Maybe nobody asked for SW, but a lot more players got mileage out of those skins than Sims 1 players did out of theirs.

As for the topic, the problem with TS4 is that it's a social media influencer game at this point. The previous iterations of The Sims emphasized creativity like machinima, stories, worldbuilding, etc. Now it just seems to be a game where the emphasis is on making videos and social media posts to gain clout, not be creative, so there's not really much to produce in the way of interesting content like in Sims 1-3.

I am switching back and forth from watching Sims 3 videos to checking for new content videos for the new EP. One scheduled twitch stream that was supposed to start 2 hours ago was canceled.

I did a bit in Sims 3 a month or so ago after I bought in on sale. Then just got lazy and went back to Sims 4 because It is what I know best. Also there were some fun videos to watch and I expected to have even more to watch. Watching instead of playing is even lazier than playing what is most familiar just because it is familiar. I got hooked on watching videos meant to hook me into watching videos.

I really hadn't realized how much the videos were more advertisement than gameplay. None of us are being creative. It is like we are just buying new coloring books instead of drawing pictures. We barely even color in the coloring books, before we just watch more videos about the newer coloring book and then buy that new book. This has really woken me up to what I have been doing.

@Katofhyrule12 Not only has it become a coloring book, the game has become a book of paper dollies. Before, it was about creating interesting, quirky and cool sims with backstories. Now it seems as though it's all about playing dress up or making your sim as pretty as possible. What happened to all the crazy, fun and cool stories about sims now? Just seems as though everyone is just trying to create fashion plates. :D

If the hype had started just a little earlier, I would be in a whole different headspace right now. Too little too late. I am already headed in another direction and I am going to keep walking on this path. I have a headstart on the Sims 3 from my previous experimentation when I grabbed the entire series during a sale at Steam. I am going through my bookmarks and watching some links that I threw in there, but did not have time to watch. I am also finding tons and tons of stuff that is new to me.

A Simmer in another thread tipped me off to this series. I can't wait to watch this and try something similar for myself.

I like gritty storylines not paper dolls in mansions.

Some differences between the games seem small on the surface, but make for very different gameplay. I am looking forward to getting below the surface to see what is underneath. There are some things I won't mention, except to say that I prefer some traditional things to be a certain way in MY game, including silly things, like having a newspaper delivered again. Water that is swimmable. Less cartoony landscapes. THE COLOR WHEEL.

I nuked the hell out of Sunset Valley at one point. I wish I could go back to that game, but it got lost on my external hard-drive that ended up broken.

I love apocalypse fics. I just need to get my hands on a current copy of Photoshop Elements and then we're in business.
I want a "just bombed by nukes "Sunset Valley" world to give it the right background...for the immediate aftermath of the story. But I'll have to wait on that until I figure out CAW a lot better.
With the addition of sky mods. I was able to make the fallout scenes a bit better.

Les Sims 3 Sunset Died by SimCookie is an awesome world. @MantleJackal but I still want the “just nuked…civilization has gone to hell in a handbasket” world. ?

Yeah because ever since EA decided to get rid of the Origin app and replaced it the EA app, people can't get CAW to work with the new app. People can still use CAW to create worlds with but I think the problem is with the 'Edit in game' that world creators are having a problem with not being able to use that option.

The Create a World program is working fine but due to the new EA app the Edit In Game mode is not responding any longer. If you click on EIG the app greets you with the message 'The Sims 3 is already running. Go ahead and start playing. It's a good one!' or just redirects straight to the launcher which means the game will open as normal but not in CAW like it used to do with Origin.
Changes to a world in progress and adding builds in CAW is now impossible. This obviously makes the usually fun world building experience very frustrating :'(

If you can find a game disk that is a pre-2012 disk, you can buy an external CD drive to install the game on your laptop. I've just brought me a new PC desktop last year that doesn't have a CD drive in it but was able to get an external CD drive to have so when I do want to use it, I can. I got for the sole purpose of installing my TS3 game with it but then chose to do digital install instead but it's still good to have just in case I ever decide to uninstall the digital version and install all of my disk.

Thanks for explaining all this! I think I see CAW still listed at the Store. I am glad that I know beforehand what I need to make it work. I should buy an external CD drive just to have in general.

@lisasc360 thanks for explaining all that bc I couldn’t remember exactly why I needed to replace my pre-2012 disc which got lost in a move with another one. Just that I needed to do that if I wanted to use CAW. It’s that blasted Edit In Game feature that I need.

But, yeah, THAT is the reason why.
