Glad I could help. I've spent weeks looking for an inexpensive (under $700 US) laptop that would play TS3 okay and I have found one with the Acer Aspire. I was hesitant to get a laptop with Windows 8, but decided to anyway. I like it better than I thought I would. I've run TS3 on it a little bit and it has run very smoothly. Still using the Dell mostly because the kids have taken over the Acer.
I will post the specs and pics from both laptops as soon as I get organized this week.
That's good to hear!! Sims 3 on Windows 8 makes me iffy with all the problem threads occasionally erupting. Then again non-Windows 8 players having problems are far from rare. I'm glad you've figured your way through! To be honest, I'm just too lazy to learn a new OS, plus I'm not too fond of the emphasis it has on social features. And you got a 640M laptop under $700?! That's a total steal!
Here's a laptop that I recently recommended to someone. It's an Ace Aspire:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215615
- $729.99 + free shipping + no tax (unless you're in one of the very few states)
- i7-3632QM (up to 3.2GHz)
- 6GB DDR3 (you honestly don't need more than this for Sims 3 unless you're a PC game engineer or whatnot)
- NVIDIA Geforce GT 640M 2GB
- 1.3 Megapixel HD Webcam 1280 x 1024 (my HP laptop is more expensive yet it barely has a 1 mexgapixel webcam :/)
- Windows 8 64-Bit
