Nikkei_Simmer, You definitely chose the right Sims version, TS4 is a HUGE disappointment. Actually, it's worse than that, it's an insult to the entire Sims franchise. The Sims has ALWAYS been a sandbox filled with soul, little simmies acting like the human simulations they were meant to be. TS4 devolved into an amusement park devoid of amusement filled with pathetic pretty little dolls obsessed with woo-hoo and not much else. That's just wrong on SO many levels, it denotes a fatal lack of imagination on the part of the game designers.
The thing is, if they were really looking for a heavy bottom line, they would've updated TS3's CAS with the new CAS amid rousing fanfare and kept going with TS3, it was a cash cow. New EPs and SPs are your friend. I think they came up with a better CAS that was planned for TS3 then decided it was so much better than the existing TS3's they should build a game around it. Wrong way to start. Then someone mentioned the TS3 load problem, so they did away with the ability to recolor objects and changed the format from sandbox to amusement park. Then they ran out of bad ideas and stupid took over, and BOY! did stupid ever win.
BTW, I powergamed TS4 for about a year, gave it a real chance, I so wanted to find something to like about the actual gameplay. Nope. It only got worse and more boring the longer I played. The only fun was designing sims and houses. I cringed whenever my male sim dug up a "treasure" chest full of non-treasure because I knew that embarrassing little dance of joy was coming. Yuk! Hard to watch. I think that was some game designers' idea of "funny", which coins the entire problem with TS4.
Now I'm happily back with TS3. After playing it for years I'm still often caught off-guard and laugh out loud at some random little thing a genius programmer threw in just for fun. Those people are BRILLIANT! Wonder why they didn't use them for TS4... oh, right, actual talent probably costs too much.
