mermaids have no tails
I have a playable mermaid and for some reason she and none of the NPC mermaids have visable tails. They move their legs as in the tail animation underwater but sim like a normal sim above the surfac...

Yesterday, my household met Mia Azul after being booted out of the water(again!). At first, she had a swim suit. Later, she wore that same dress in that picture at a birthday. I have pictures of her in my studio.
So far, only the three homeless so-called mermaids lacked tails and scaly legs on land. Other mermaids like Karlie Goldberg and Tariq Scott still have tails and scales. So, I haven't viewed this as a problem.
