Another tip, I also avoid CC almost entirely.
However I have found that custom, seamless, 100% recolorable patterns can practically completely change your wardrobe options with recolor customizations and new textures.
For an exciting and quick start, I add this to my mods folder: Simlicious_CombinedPatternsMegapack_August_2015
