My sims won't go inside their house when they come home

When my sims come home from off their lot, they never go inside the house. They just stop in the yard in front of the house. The front door is properly designated as the front door. That was the first thing I checked.

Here is a picture of the front of their house. The fence is there primarily to keep out the paparazzi and other unwanted visitors. I put in a regular gate and locked it to everyone except their household, because a celebrity gate looks out of place in their neighborhood.

I replaced the gate with a celebrity gate for a while, in case it might help, but they still wouldn't go into the house when they came home. I tried resetting the door and the whole lot, but they still won't go into the house when they get home. But when I removed the gate in a test save, the sim I tried it with went into the house, just as he should have.

But here is the house they just moved from:

As you can see, it has the exact same kind of fence and gate, and the gate was also locked to everyone except their household while they lived there. And they always went inside the house when they came home from somewhere.

Can anyone think of any reason why my sims won't go inside their house when they come home? I would really like to get this fixed.

  • @IreneSwift. Edit: Ignore that...since you built your home without CFE at this point.

    1. It seems as though you've put enough space between the gate and the main door, which more than likely would not be the problem since your sims can get in the gate but stand in the yard without going into your house.
    2. Somehow your lot may have corrupted irreparably - that seems to be the only cause that's left since you've reset your lot, bulldozed and replaced your lot and changed the gate multiple times.
  • @Nabril I tried what you suggested with changing the front door designation to the gate, then back again. No change there.

@Nikkei_Simmer I'm assuming you're referring to the empty lot being corrupted, correct? I wonder if it might have anything to do with the fact that before I could place the house there, several sim weeks into the game, I had to build a small structure and bulldoze the lot. Apparently, it was the spawning place for some of the NPC's, and had the vacant house lot tag, instead of the empty lot tag.
  • It could quite possibly be. If you have an empty house tag, @IreneSwift, you have to bulldoze the lot first before building on it. Otherwise you can have problems.
  • @Nikkei_Simmer Yes, I know those lots have to be bulldozed. But I never build houses in the worlds I play in. I do all my building in my "Build & Edit" world, which is just an empty flat map I exported from CAW. I add lots with the world editor when I'm ready to build, then save the finished house or community lot and place it in whatever world I want it in. You can't place houses on a lot with an empty house lot tag, so it's not going to happen in my game.
  • I don't know what to tell you then. Because everyone has tried suggestions...and so far it hasn't worked.
  • @Nikkei_Simmer It's OK, don't worry about it. I'll find some other way to deal with the situation. I had a thought of using the cow plant and setting the attraction so high for paparazzi, with NRaas Retuner, that they'd always go straight to it as soon as they got on the lot. But I always feel like a murderer if a cow plant I place in the game ever actually eats anyone, so I won't be doing that. I might put something else that they will be attracted to in a remote corner of the lot, far from the house, so they'll be far enough away to not be so annoying. Another thought is to give enough other sims in town higher level of celebrity than my sims have, that the paparazzi will be too busy following other sims to hang around my sims' house. If all else fails, I can disable them entirely with NRaas Register.

Only Nraas Register can disable paparazzi completely. Retuner can only change the pool size but even if you set it 0 with Retuner the game can and will spawn them if the game calls for one.
  • @ScottDemon OK, maybe I was tired or something, or maybe because I had already mentioned Retuner, my mind got stuck on that. I actually meant NRaas Register for disabling paparazzi, not Retuner. I use it all the time to disable paparazzi in most of my games. I've edited my post to correct that.
  • Well I know it sucks, it has happened to me too. If other comments are too confusing try getting yourself a new home. If you dont have the money press ctrl-shift-c and a tab will appear at the top. Then type "motherlode"(exactly how i spelt it) to get 50k. The more you do it the more money you have to buy a new house.

Edited by EA_Mai (June 11, 2019): as this thread is quite old and it's unlikely IreneSwift is still having this issue, locking it here. Thanks!
