- Sharooonia5 years agoSeasoned AceThe Sims 3 really needs a thread for asking nooby questions. Being fairly unfamiliar with the game myself I keep having all these questions pop up and I never know where to ask them. Does a thread like that exist and I'm just missing it?

I have a Tyvek wall pattern over in my studio if you want to check it out...?

Awesome, thank you, DuPont Canada makes Tyvek too so yup...definitely can use it. for the exterior vapour barrier.
You're welcome... :) I had created that pattern for someone else a few years back that was looking for something like that. I had 2 patterns but one got culled from my studio, but at least I still had one on there just in case I ever wanted to use it or if someone else needed it as well... :)- NikkeiSimmer5 years agoLegend

@Sharonia - Most people just start a new thread - It's okay to ask any question at all - I'm of the opinion that if you don't ask, you don't find out the answer.
Of course, sometimes I personally do come up with some pretty stupid questions. Namely...

...and thanks to @starguru who went and did a complete test on what would happen...we found out the answer. :)
So...I figured I'd turn my "Stupid Questions" title into a running gag...and of course, I am looking for real answers, especially in this one. The plumbot one was questionable, but we found out.

@starguru... Thank you...these were exactly the kind of cc I was looking for. especially the simple wall studs.
You're welcome. I thought they might be. I have a project where I also want screenshots of an in-progress home construction for a challenge story and I was stoked when I found the content I linked."Nikkei_Simmer;c-17741750" wrote:

:joy: I had forgotten about that! It was an entertaining test, although I didn’t expect the Plumbot to actually die. But I always enjoy a good kaboom, so thank you @Nikkei_Simmer for the idea and the excuse to do it.

As for the noob question comment thread... I can see how it might be a good thing to have, particularly for new members who can’t make their own threads yet. Having a moderator sticky it to the top of the board would also help with visibility and prevent it from becoming buried.
However, a thread with such a broad topic—containing multiple, disparate questions—might mean some user’s asks get overlooked and remain unanswered, especially if the thread grows and becomes unwieldy. People generally don’t read every comment in a ginormous thread, or read very thoroughly, and things do get missed. There’s also the issue with it potentially being locked for necromancy if it goes inactive for awhile and is deemed an old thread by moderators.
For myself, I like when I can understand the basic question/s from an individual thread title—I already know the topic before I click on it and have a general idea if it’s something I could help with or am curious about myself. The response rate to specific questions also seems quicker in standalone threads, and querents can receive the information they’re looking for without sorting through a mess of other unrelated topics. My two cents.
So, I would encourage you to make as many threads as you need about any question you might have, @Sharonia. Or, if you want all your personal Q&A’s in a single thread, you could always create your own ongoing “Sharonia’s Nooby Questions” thread. You could also change part of the thread title each time you add a new question so others know what you’d like help with currently. - DollyGizzy5 years agoSeasoned Ace

There is actually a thread for new members to post questions already.

Yes. However, my understanding was that the poster was asking if there was a thread for general gameplay questions and WCIF questions like this one, rather than tech issues. I could be mistaken though. - WaytoomanyUIDs5 years agoSeasoned AceArneils's Build Set - DIY https://modthesims.info/d/446927/build-set-diy-updated-10th-sept-2012.html can be used to depict a timber framed house under construction.

Yes, I too think that this is what starguru meant about a thread for anyone looking for certain things for the game as well. We do have some threads with links for different custom content but I believe that some of those threads have outdated links for sites that hasn't been open for quite some time. But I do think a thread for the "WCIF" questions would be a good idea so that they don't take up a good deal of the page when someone has a few things that they're looking but just didn't post everything they need in one thread. Plus it'll be handy for the players who had played TS3 for several of years who never had cc in their game as well as for new members who just started playing TS3 who can't start new threads so that hopefully they don't bump up the older threads with outdated links to non-existing threads...?- NikkeiSimmer5 years agoLegendI concur that a thread for newcomers who "can't create their own threads yet" would be a good thing, but only if it was pinned to the top of the board, otherwise, like that other certain thread...which seems to get dislodged every so often, we might find it at the third or fourth page of this forum.
My "Nikkei_Simmer's Stupid Questions" do run the gamut of hypothetical questions to WCIF.
Nikkei_Simmer's Stupid Question # 1 -CAN PLUMBOTS BE DESTROYED BY DET-PACKS?
Nikkei Simmer's Stupid Question # 2 - SHOUD I HAVE PICKED UP A STRAY DOG AT UNIVERSITY?
Nikkei Simmer's Stupid Question # 3 - WCIF - A SMALL WORLD (256X256) WITH ONLY 9 LOTS
Nikkei Simmer's Stupid Question # 4 - IS THERE A WAY TO RENAME BUY DEBUG TOMBSTONES? - evidently no-one knows the answer to this one.
Nikkei Simmer's Stupid Question # 5 - CAN'T PLUMBOTS USE THE WOOD FIRE OVEN (FROM MONTE VISTA)?
Nikkei Simmer's Stupid Question # 6 - WOULD THIS REQUIRE A CUSTOM SKIN OR...?
...and of course this one...
