That's a possibly slightly delayed notification that you have just put your original household into the manual caste.
You're doing it right. Or the recommended way, anyway. Some players wait until a household becomes inactive before putting them into a manual caste for protection, but then forget or find in the split sim-minute in between getting around to doing that, SP pushes some things on them (they might move out or get new careers on you for example, or sell everything in their inventories) that were not wanted. I usually run the game clock for a few sim minutes, just a little bit, after putting them into such a caste but before moving on to another household or CAH even though that's probably not really necessary.
