The sorcerer held the keep for a long time after the battle. The King and the Queen had lost their best men during the battle and offered no resistance. Some families rebelled, and vanished without a trace. The land of Praaven became deserted. Only a handful of noble families remained, hiding in their homes, praying the sorcerer would not come for them.
One day a rider came through the village of Lughaven, beneath the marauder fort.

Greyson Godling had traveled far as the news of what happened in Praaven had reached her. She used to live there, in a small hut in a secluded little valley. For a time she was the white witch of Praaven, known for her allegiance to the king. But then the prosecutions had began. The nobles of Praaven were afraid of magic, of all things suprenatural, and all creatures of magic had been chased off.

All but one.
Greyson knew him well, her old friend.

He was the real reason she left Praaven, searching for answers. She knew the moment she met him he was no ordinary unicorn. If there is such a thing. He was a creature of magic, but she had sensed a curse, a strong curse. Nothing she had done had been enough to break it, so she left. Left for answers. Her kin, the elves, knew the curse she told them of. And they had given her the knowledge she needed to break it. And they knew about him. It was an old legend among the elves.

We need you now, she told him. Praaven needs you. Long had he remained hidden, sealed away in an equine form, but the time had come to release him. He whinnied softly. sensing her urgency no doubt.

The Unicorn of Praaven, as ancient as the land he grazed, threw his head up and gave out a shrill cry.

The spell was not a simple one, but Greyson came prepared. She started chanting, the beast standing perfectly still his eyes fixed on her.

As she continued he gave out another cry, this time in agony; his shimmering white body trembling.

Yet he did not flee. He stood his ground as Greyson finalized the spell, uttering the last few words through a clenched jaw.

Relief flooded her body as the curse finally shattered, and the beast with it.
