Can you not just bury the sims you want on privately owned land without all of the trappings of a formal Mausoleum or does something get goofed up by doing it that way?
I've kind of done that. I just made a private graveyard at the back of their main property and placed gravestones of deceased family sims there. There were no issues with that, although I don't know if there are perks you'd get with a mausoleum. My dead sims are either in the yard and visit as they choose, or I ignore them entirely, so I may be missing out on something. You could build something like a little mausoleum if you wanted to have that, although it wouldn't have any rabbithole functions - or any uninvited dead sims either.
