Private Graveyard - How to have only your active family who have died be buried there?

I don't like keeping headstones on my sims' family lot, so I made a family graveyard on a separate lot once. It was before our sims could own more than one lot, so they didn't own it, and it was a community lot. But it had no mausoleum, so only my own sims' headstones were placed there. I think that now that our sims can own more than one lot, if I make another family graveyard in the future, I'll have them buy a second, vacant residential lot for it.
