Try this:
Save the game under a new name... Like if you're game is called "Sims" do a "save as" and call it "Sims.1"
Then move the couple out of their house to the clip board. Then move them back in. Sometime if the lot is glitched you may have to bulldoze the house. Or move them into a new home.
