Returning to Sims 3

I'm returning to the game after a few years of not playing, any tips/hints or guides I could look at for a refresher on how things work? I'm a supernatural player and not into challenges or legacy/family play. The packs I currently have are base game, Supernatural, Showtime, Late Night, and High-End Loft Stuff.

  • I like to work on badges to find out new ways of playing. There are badges for various expansions.

I also make videos and some of my videos are devoted to getting badges.

If you're interested in videos my McFluff Story is about a witch and a lot of cats.

Caroline and Friends is about getting badges. The first playlist is all about Island Paradise badges. Next one is about University life.

Isla Paradiso Bunch has a few different occults. The first playlist is about Island Paradise and the secind is about doing the World Adventures tombs.

Oscars Childhood is a bit supernatural too. Aliens and Mermaids in the beginning but as it progresses anything is possible.

Main thing is to have fun.
  • Welcome back :)

The Sims 3 now comes in two versions.

1.67 is used by disk players and is digitally available on Steam. You may need the Superpatch. I am on my tablet or else I would post the link. You will also need to patch the launcher manually as EA no longer updates it. You will still need the launcher for downloading store content

1.69 is available digitally through Origin. If your disks are registered and you update to version 1.69 you will no longer be able to use the disks. If you decide to purchase new games they will all have to be digital.

Why not start with your favourite pack. If you fancy a change from Moonlight Falls and are happy to use cc then Rflong's Supernatural Island might make a great place to start playing. I would also suggest getting Seasons because it adds so much new gameplay and fits well with Supernatural. University is another good pack for adding gameplay. You could always form a band thanks to Late Night and the acrobat career from Showtime is a favourite.

If you are planning on adding packs then you may want to check your computer specs. If you have Windows 10 you may need to adjust your graphics settings especially if the game doesn't recognise your graphics card. The tech section can help with all this. There are also plenty of mods if you use them.

Once you are set up correctly then I hope you enjoy rediscovering the game. Happy Simming :)
  • Welcome back! Definitely do as these folks have suggested! If TS3 gets boring....try your hand at completing some really hard tasks within the game! I have been trying to have one sim complete six degrees from University FOREVER!! The closest I have ever gotten before she died of old age without any cheats or life fruit or elixir was four. If I can achieve that one...I may have my next sim be a family-oriented sim that wants to have 30 grandchildren! EGADS!!!
  • First, welcome back! I too am a recent returnee and am having a blast. I'm going to assume you know about the essential NRAAS mods but if you're not make sure you ask someone about them. I only use a very small few of them but I wouldn't play without them.

As for challenges, I'm not particularly into those myself so I'm not the one to answer but what has brought a whole new aspect to my returning game play is using my actual playing family to tell a story and then sharing it on the What happened in your sims 3 game today thread. I'm considering starting a story blog using the blog we get through TS3, we will see :) But it's definitely opened up a whole new reason and way to play for me :)
  • Welcome back! My tip: try not to do everything the game has to offer at once, make your pick and go with that. And don't make the 'mistake' to start a family too soon, because that's often kind of grindy and keeps you from doing all the amazing other things you can do with your sims. That's all it takes for me to stay entertained and unbored, has worked for 9,5 years now ;)
  • I love remodeling, redorating, recoloring. I love finding interesting custom content to add to my game.

I really like trying out Ani's Mods - https://modthesims.info/m/3002461 and I'm about to try the Career Mod - https://missyhissysjobcentre.wordpress.com/the-job-board/ plus http://modthesims.info/d/517911

    It's all good!
