Romantic reputation is unpredictable

I knew that sometimes your sim's partner will accuse them of cheating when your sim hasn't actually cheated. But it also seems that some sims are utterly clueless about when they're being cheated on... even when their partner becomes pregnant without their involvement. I've tested this on two different households. The first one involves George Durelli in Starlight Shores. I'd hooked him up with a CAS sim of mine, Kylie Weinberg. They had 2 kids (though their status is still just "romantic interest"; Kylie has the "commitment issues" trait). But then Kylie had an affair and became pregnant, yet even after the child of this union was born, she had an "Eternally Faithful" reputation. You'd think George would have figured it out, but no.

It gets even weirder, though. In another save, one of my sims is still completely oblivious to the fact that her same-sex partner has cheated, despite the fact that said partner has gotten pregnant through an affair with Lewis Rogers from university (she invited him for a visit and then they went to a dive bar I built with cheap hotel rooms upstairs). And the partner she cheated on is a doctor, for crying out loud.

It's almost as if sims haven't figured out the link between woohoo and pregnancy.

  • I have not had any of my Sims, thus far, cheat and get pregnant outside of their significant other. However, based on what I observe from the A.I. with Sims who just cheat...my Sims do know and sometimes react in their own way. Whether that means to act like they don't know for the sake of family, for the sake of their own sanity and love of the person or whatever the reason. But I am sure clueless can be a possibility, just not one I have seen yet or at least remember.

For example my Sim Abeni has cheated on her then boyfriend with a married man by the name of Max. When I had switched to their household I was confused why my Sims kept ignoring each other if I just watched and observed their autonomous behaviors. That wasn't how they were acting before but clearly something changed and happened. I am not sure if he found out about the affair then or later and just suspected something wrong but with no proof.

I took the role of relationship counselor and their relationship slowly over time did greatly improve. I think the problem may have been she has the social butterfly trait and likely felt ignored or not getting enough attention from her boyfriend, Myles, so she cheated. He forgave her apparently, or so I thought, and all was well. Fast forward, they are currently married with two toddler daughters and one infant son. Max, at some point, kept visiting their household and I figured he wanted to rekindle something. Myles caught on and eventually retaliated when I was playing another household at the time.

I have NRass Tagger, so when I saw Myles visiting the household of Max, I opened that house up to see what was going on. I posted this story somewhere so maybe I'll update later with screenshots. Long story short, Myles went there to flirt with Max's wife which of course Max got upset and then Max proceeded to the bedroom to woohoo his wife. A common behavior I see in my Sims when they feel threatened by another Sim moving in on their significant other. Eventually Tracee, Max's wife, started arguing with Myles and him right back at her. But I honestly think that was just for show as not only I but my other Sims see them two together around town and sometimes flirting.

Besides that, Myles cheated on his wife Abeni with someone else, a different married woman. I don't know yet if Abeni knows but I know she is suspicious. Well, I guess Myles really couldn't forgive her and had to take revenge. Of course, my Sims can be so sneaky that sometimes I don't even catch on until later, if at all, lol. What is the full story I wonder, I'm still learning which is a part of the reason why TS3 is so entertaining. Not only is the A.I. stories limitless or seems so, but always changing. Which is why my custom lifespan for my Sims are extremely long because it would be no way I could learn as much as I do otherwise.

    Still.Not.Bored.

Edit: Found it. It's a little further down the page under the username Deshong.

  • Unfortunately, the Eternally Faithful reputation helps sims get away with bad romantic behavior. Not my preference, but it seems to be changeable from files I poked around in.

I think minor flirts might count, though, which could explain the other issue.

The related systems are far from perfect, but can be fun. o:)

Romantic interests are not "partners" in the game sense. It just means the sims showed some interest in each other that goes beyond woohoo. If your sim only kisses one other sim, (s)he will get the chain of "faithful" moodlets. The game seems to keep up a certain distinction between heartfelt involvement and bodily attraction. And even though your sims had two kids with each other, they still count as singles for the game. Only romantic actions performed in front of the romantic interest count as bad behavior in that case. As long as the involved don't kiss (and kissing during woohoo doesn't count for some reason), cheating in the game is relatively "safe". As soon as the sims go steady, things change, as that's a commitment.
Of course, there's always some element of chance involved in these things, too.
