Sexual orientation options?

I've been wanting this since the Sims 1. The option to
choose your Sims' sexual orientation (gay, bi, straight.) That way when you befriend
someone you don't get wants to kiss/etc with one of your Sim's friends.
Anyone else interested in this?

By default, Sims already have a preset on sexual orientation. I haven't noticed this until yesterday when I finally put EA's terrible SP (Yes, I find it horrible). You'll notice it more often with townies than the premade families.
I wouldn't want options for this. It should be surprise like in real life :P

I can confirm this statement. I have a female sim who has only ever generated wishes to perform romantic interactions with female sims. She became a vampire, married a normal male sim, had a child, and shortly after he died, she started getting wishes for female romantic interactions again.

Plus, anyone who has the Nraas Master Controller Mod can tell you: it gives you the option to alter it.

I don't like using mods myself, but I have a couple that I do use on rare occasions. So what I was wondering is: how is that actually determined? Is it completely random, or do traits affect it somehow?
  • That's almost correct. Every Sim in a fresh game has 0 gender preference, apart from some pre-mades who might have a slight inclination towards some gender. Even those Sims whose bio suggests otherwise start with a plain Zero. What determines their preference during the game then is the amount of successful romantic interactions which shifts them gradually towards one gender or the other. Just use a male Sim and have him ask every other male in town whether they are singles. If this interaction is successful, i.e., met with the approving reaction, this other male Sim will then be potentially gay, even if he is married. The further you progress in your game, however, the more difficult it will be to change a non-played Sim's preference, because they will interact autonomously with other Sims, too.
I have one Bridgeport game where Matthew Hamming was "accidentally" made gay by my own Sim right at the beginning of the game, because I used two romantic socials on him - Ask if Single and Ask Star Sign. After that, due to Hammings flirty trait, he must have turned many other male Sims autonomously because I ended up with half of Bridgeport being gay and most of the women being condemned to spinsterhood ;).
  • That would be interesting, something different, the most appealing part to me would be what orientation my kids are born to be. One of my sims is already a lesbian, because guy girl sim relationships get a little too normal for me.

    Agreed, this would be good.

These things tend to be left alone by EA though. I don't know why. Sexual orientation just seems taboo. I suppose they made it "possible" for same sex relationships to occur, though the fact that it doesn't happen "naturally" is a bit politically incorrect.

Oh who knows ;( it's one of 'them' topics.

It does happen naturally which is great! :) In fact, I've yet to see straight couples cuddle on park benches which is a little sad for me.

edit to add: found another couple later on too ;)

  • I definitely would not want this. Lots of times I don't really know who I want my sim to be with and sims are very malleable anyway. They will go with whoever you guide them towards so it's really not necessary imo. I suppose I could just choose bi for all my sims to leave my options open but meh. I really would not like it if it was chosen randomly by the game like favorite food or favorite color. I like to be in control and determine who my sim will be with. I also highly doubt that EA will ever touch this. I really think leaving it open will lead to less tension and less complaints and such.
  • I've had completly strait neighborhoods up until NL. Bridgeport seems to be more open in it's relationships. Elvira Slayer the vampire is definately not choosy in which sex she prefers and I have one male I can't remember his name constantly hitting on men (and being mostly rejected poor guy) at the bars. I think it's kind of cool actually.
  • I think they should not change that part of the game. I like that the game is random and you never know what will happen in your game. I like that about the sims 3.

I think the idea for sexual orientation is great. I mean you don't have to have it. Just like with the other expansions. No one's sticking a knife at your throat telling you that you need all the expansion packs. So if there was update of expansion pack, it's not like the homophobes are made to buy it. So quit whining! There are gay people in real life too. I don't see you crying there...oh wait, never mind. Still in this sense, it's not something you're forced to do. Even so the chuckled heads can just make all their sims straight. It's like chosing their sex, it's either or. It makes it easier so that your sim isn't defenseless against sims trying to get with them regardless of gender. While we're at "controversial issues" there should be a transgender mod. I want my sims to be able to get sexual reassignment surgeries, gender therapy and hormone pills. Drag queens/kings would be cool too. No one said it had to be in the official game. I wish there could be M-Rated expansion packs that were for adults playing the Sims. I'm kind of underwhelmed by the lack of reality for a life emulating game. Course it's rated teens...even though kids play it :?
Bottom-line, Sims imitates life and there should be nothing really that gets in the way of that. There are gay kids playing the Sims. I'm should there are cross-dressing ones too. So they should be represented in some way. Not for chuckle-head down the street or homophobe next door, but for the people who want to have a sim represent them. Isn't that what every simmer wants? Even at the end of the day though. It's a freaking game. So what if there is an options for sexuality. There isn't an option for religion or gender identity either. There isn't even one for political stance (which would be cool since it's near election). My point is, the Sims game is different for everyone. No one should be critical of someone else's game play, just like they shouldn't be critical of someone else's life either. I say "aye" for the sexuality option. I don't give a rat bottom if you agree or not.

*le sigh* Right above your avatar, where your username is, there is this gray strip. In that gray strip there is this thing called a date. If you look you can see that all these posts are approaching their two year anniversary. Please don't dredge up controversial topics that have already been talked about, and argued over.
  • There is sexual orirentation. It's a hidden thing that is randomized and not an option (realistic that it's not an option because sexual orientation isn't a choice, what ever you are.) You can edit it if you have Twallian's MAster Controller.

@Beaglelover2008: Sorry, didn't realize this was an old thread because the person above you had obviously posted and bumped it and I hadn't read any other replies, I just wanted to weigh my opinion in.
