I am one who loves sims3, I would recommend you trying it out if you need some kind of gameplay now. I wouldn't go all out and invest in a lot of packs if you just want to try it.
It took me 2 years to get into sims4 (seasons got me back) so maybe something will come out later for you, that draws you back to it!
