@bunny-gypsy I was referring to this statement you made:I'm a gamer who's used to linear games in general in different game genres, or playing around within restrictions, (and I've enjoyed linear sims games like Urbz and Castaway in the past), so I guess that's why I don't get bothered as much as other simmers who are used to the more sandbox mode in previous games.
TS4 has a lot of linearity to it so that's why I said it was made for you. The wink was just sort of meant as a 'friendly nod'. :)
I'm not that big on linear play unless it's my own thing - I mean a lot of the time I tend to play the same way, start off with a single sim, get them a job, have them date and find them or make them a mate, have them get married, have kids, etc. I don't find that way of playing to be at all satisfying in TS4. First and foremost because even though I tend to play that way, I play with unique sims who all have a different way about them; different personalities, different careers, different hobbies, etc. I dislike the careers in 4 and there's not really enough variety to them or to the sims themselves to make them seem unique and different. I don't think they did a good job with the age stages, leaving one out and not distinguishing all the age stages and making them feel unique and special (and in some cases making them far worse than they've ever been in any previous game).
So really I mainly dislike linear play that's dictated by the game itself - as in WA or in GTW - because it doesn't lend itself to replay-ability. I'd much rather they focused on providing fun content that I can put together in new and different ways to make my own gameplay. That said, I do enjoy TS3 WA (playing it again recently) but I've only really played it twice. Currently I am attempting to finish every tomb in every world for the first time ever. So it's been 7 years since I tried to play an Explorer sim. Now at least the content was awesome and flexible and we were able to use that content in many ways in regular gameplay outside of the vacation worlds. So I have definitely used features and assets that they provided in that pack over the years, I would just prefer them to focus on things that can expand on the everyday lives of my sims.
BTW, after two years with TS3 we had TS3 BG, World Adventures, Ambitions, and Late Night. Plus the Create A World tool. All of those packs together provided more gameplay than I think they will ever add to TS4 IMO.
Ah, I see. Totally understand what you mean now, @HappySimmer3 .
Apologies for the misunderstanding. No hard feelings?
And, yes, Sims 3 had a lot of good stuff (at least, it looks like some good stuff in my eyes) in its first two years.
It's just unfortunate that Sims 3's Story Progression (and cocoon babies and missing OFB stuff and cocoon babies) had put me off playing it for many years... Thank goodness for mods! (Though, for me, Sims 2 just seems to work better for my playstyle and has more animations and details.)
