I'm sure that would help. The main thing you have to do to get an epic party is to make sure there are plenty of things for the guests to do. A video game console would help. Sims can play together on those. You could even have one of your active sims sit down and invite guests to play with him, then get up and get another group involved in something that they will keep at for a while. If the weather's good, outdoor activities can be helpful too, like horseshoes, gnubb, etc. Even water balloon or snowball fights are a good way to engage guests. They don't even care if they're wearing formalwear, they'll join right in anyway. I had one winter gift-giving party where one couple made use of both the kids' igloo and the all in one bathroom to woohoo, while all the kids and some of the adults were outside having a snowball fight. They all thought that party was epic.
