Something that took me a long time to figure out - when trying to place a décor item on a table hit the 'm' key before you click it down to place it and the item will jump around to all the different spots available. Also, probably well known but recently someone was excited about this tip, you can use the semicolon and comma keys to shift an item up and down the walls, if it's shiftable that is.
