I do the same thing, too try to read what they are thinking/feeling etc. It adds another layer of hilarity to their expressions or actions.
This is my 'Into The Future' Sim, Carmen and a screenshot I got of her with a strange facial expression and thought-bubble:

It's like she going "Hmph! People!!!" Which I totally relate to sometimes >:)
