I never try for "realism." I like for my sims to look like sims, even with CC. So I'm really picky about my custom content. I do really love the general facial structure of TS4's sims, and I can appreciate how much more you can tweak the little details in CAS. But, (perhaps because so many CC artists make content for both 3 and 4), honestly, sometimes I can barely tell the difference between TS3 sims and TS4 sims when both are laden with the same sort of CC. Call me crazy, but every now and then I'll see a pic of a sim with CC and be like "is that 3 or 4?"
Now those sims are amazingly beautiful..
