This is how I see the difference between Sims 4 and Sims 3. It's similar to the difference between theater and film. Theater actors need to play bigger - bigger, more exaggerated gestures and facial expressions, louder voices with very clear diction so they can reach to the back of the audience. Because cameras can move in for closeups film actors can use more natural, subtle gestures, facial expressions and voice. Because plays are limited to sets on the stage the outside world takes a back seat to dialog between characters on a fixed set until the end of the scene when there is a pause while the next set is put in place. And because the outside can not be brought into the set very easily any scenes taking place outside have sets that consist of 2 dimensional cardboard cutouts. Because the camera can be taken almost anywhere the location can become a part of the whole experience using real scenery to establish location, atmosphere and time period, taking less dialog to do so. Film uses more of a "show you" approach where as theater is more "tell you".
Some people like both theater and film but often prefer one over the other. The same can be said for Sims 4 (which I think is like theater) and Sims 3 (which is like film). I prefer film and Sims 3.
