Steam sale—base game only

In case anyone's interested, Steam is selling the TS3 base game for $2.99 right now. The packs are the regular prices ($20 each), except for one bundle that's 50% off (not a good deal compared to typical sale prices). But if anyone was thinking of switching to a Steam install and would therefore need to buy the base game again, now's the perfect time. The sale goes through July 30.

Even if you're not sure whether you want to switch to Steam, at the very least, you could register the CD key in Origin and get the 1000 SimPoints that come with the base game for $3.

While we're overwhelming @FireDrakeZ with info, should we also mention that you can register multiples of that 2.99 base game on Origin and get the 1000 simpoints for each one, which would be a lot cheaper than buying the points?

I use the same email for Origin and steam so I think I can get only get the 1000 point bonus for registering once.

@FireDrakeZ No, you WILL get them more than once, unless EA just changed something very, very recently. I would just suggest, if you do it, don't install any store content until AFTER you've registered the last code. I registered a Steam code for base game on my Origin account that already had a disc code registered and got the points, but Origin then tied my account to the new code and I had to re-download all my store content to get it to work.
  • Will also add here since I don't see it mentioned yet that there should be an additional 1,000 points granted for registering the WA expansion without involving multiples. :)

"Combining the Daily Deal and Complete Your Set can net you collections worth thousands of points for only a few hundred. For example (this is a thing I'm doing right now), you can buy the basketball hoop on the Daily Deal for 130 points instead of the usual 593. But you get credit for paying 593, so when the Level Up Collection shows up on the DD for 560 points, it becomes free. And then the Man Cave compilation, normally priced at 3,000 points, is offered for 750, that's free too."

Thanks for the links. I couldn't wait for basketball hoop Daily Deal, but decided to get the Level Up Collection with its game room for 560 points today. I will use this to get the Man Cave compilation later as you suggested.

  • I bought it some days ago.

I´m waiting for the expansions to be 60% off hahahaahahha
  • I've been thinking about switching my Sims3 over to Steam for a while (I already got some games on there like my Left 4 Dead 2 game).

What all do I need to do to switch the Origin version over to a Steam version? Will I need to repurchase the store items that I have, or could I cut and paste my "download" items into a desktop folder, then reinstall afterwards? Also is going to be an issue with my Sims account, since I will still have Sims4 on Origin (add to that, my Origin and Steam name is the same).

I'm still cheesed off about my Showtime getting messed up. All attempts to fix it (short of just buying a new one) has failed. Since I MUST now go thru the hassle of buying a new Showtime pack as a replacement, I may as well start replacing the whole Sims3 series with Steam.

You will need to purchase first the base game and then the EP/SPs on Steam. Uninstall the Origin version (I pulled my user game folder out first for safekeeping), clean registry, install the Steam version. Adjust any Core Mods you may have from the 1.69 back to the 1.67 versions.

Register the base game and WA on the TS3 store site to get 1,000 store points for each one, these two older offers are still being honored. Register the remaining purchases as well if you wish.

On the store content and worlds, you will need to redownload from Purchase History and Launcher reinstall all of it. But not repurchase. The former downloads won't work on the newly registered Steam version but they are still yours to download and install provided you continue using the same player account.
