Thanks, @igazor . Yes, I use those personalities, and Sandi French used to be (and probably still is) the town "harpy". The change happened when both sims randomly met at the graveyard.
There may be some other shenanigans involved, as it sometimes looks as if the game uses two different copies of the sims in that family, but it had already happened to sims from other families around their turn from teen to YA before.
