November 19th:
Q: The budget amount... what inspired that?
A: I like even numbers, but not nice round ones sometimes!
Q: Since there is a budget is depreciation allowed?
A: Of course, I do love that element of budgets, since I'm horrible with them.
Q: The wood floors through out... does that include bathroom?
A: I'm going to make an exception for the bathroom, but throughout for the rest of the home.
November 20th:
Q: Is there a specific world it needs to be built in, or a specific lot or lot size it needs to be placed on?
A: Nope not at all, just keep in mind the client's wants and needs and the budget and let your creativity flow.
November 21st:
Q: Until just now, when I bothered to digest the thread title, did I think of this as "holiday" as in Christmas. Just thinking of it as more like a getaway spot for holidays and vacation. I thought maybe I should ask before I go off in the wrong direction.
A: That's specifically why I didn't name it the Christmas Cabin Contest; I didn't want to limit anyone's creative freedom! Completely up to you in which direction you'd like to take this.
Q: Does this contest have any kind of 'before' shots?
A: There doesn't need to be, but there doesn't NOT need to be either, especially if you've got a backstory brewing! Anything that's above and beyond the criteria would count toward bonus points and presentation.
Q: Can basements also get the wood floor exemption?
A: The idea for this particular want is to have wood floors throughout the main open plan areas (I'll amend this in the build section). Because it is only a want, it's not a necessary! Buyers needs to make compromises sometimes
UPDATE: November 22nd
I've amended the criteria for the build portion, making the MUST HAVES more heavily weighted than the WANTS and the bonus/wow factor is now an actual bonus, so will help should other areas lose points.
November 22nd:
Q: How does depreciation work?
A: As soon as you use place some items, the price depreciates. When building, I'll save my game and reenter the lot to find that the lot is cheaper even though no time has passed. Wallpapers and floors and walls themselves depreciate in price as well as stuff.
Moving a sim in to upgrade appliances will give you greater depreciation the longer the sim takes to fix things. I think max depreciation is one week; but you will get significant depreciation after 3 days.
Depending on the budget, you can sometimes spend up to 10,000 more. After playing the lot for a few days, you can pick what to keep and what to get rid of to make the budget. I tend to buy everything I might want and then see how much I'm over budget once I've played the house for a week. (Adding things later means you'll have to play longer for the new stuff to depreciate.)
November 27th:
Q: Do we have to enter a sim as well as a lot?
A: You don't need to enter a Sim if you don't want to; the build just needs to be past on the Clients' must haves and wants!
Q: If we need to enter a sim can CC that does not transfer be used in the pictures? (I use default replacement skins and eyes and eyebrows that I don't want to remove from my game.)
A: Yes, if you'd like to enter a Sim, you can use defaults. I will update the rules!
November 28th:
Q: Should we upload the house and the sim separately or can we upload them together?
A: If you could upload them separately, that would be great. You can upload the Sim as a household or straight from CAS.
Q: Will the raven upload also? I want my sim to keep the raven if possible.
A: Where is the Raven? If it's part of the household or in the inventory, if you upload as a household, it should still be there.
December 8th:
Q: Do you have a preference on how many simoleans the sim has?
A: I hadn't really thought about that but, nope, not at all.
December 24th:
Q: Is there any particular lot size you would like to set as minimum/maximum?
Or orientation ... Such as a 30x20 lot horizontal or perpendicular to the road?
A: No restrictions on size or orientation! It's all up to you as long as it fits within the budget.
Q: Speaking of budget and lots ... Mine costs within budget, not including the lot. Do I need to trim some more stuff from my build to get it within budget on its lot?
A: It's the cost when save it and upload it because it has to be done from edit town mode, so whatever the final price is there, if that makes sense.
* Added for clarification: The only time the price would be different is if you share it straight from the library because from the library it doesn't take into the cost of the lot but if you share from edit town while it's on the lot, the price should be the same there as when you're actually on the lot. So I guess the easiest answer to cwaddell's question would have been the final price includes the build and the lot price. It wouldn't have been the same for everyone since not everyone is building on the same size lot.
December 25th:
Q: Is it ok if the sim has some skills because I've been playing him and is it ok if things are upgraded (fireproof fireplace)?
A: It's totally fine if you want to upload your Sim as a household and if the house is upgraded.
