To get or not to get MODs

I've been seriously considering using mods on the game, once I can find a more than decent PC to play the game. Our hard drive died and, the game was in it. :( Anyway, with Sims 3 already close to lasting for a decade, I have one question. Is it worth getting mods? I heard it fixes the Island Paradise Glitch and lag problems that are a legacy of the game. hahaha

My towns would've died off or turned into dysfunctional nightmares without Mods if that save didn't end up corrupted by a social worker taking a child away or by the EA bugfest glitching things out and starting pregnancies in wrong ages like it did for me a few times in unmodded games.
I've got my game loaded with over 700 Mods including the 113 Nraas Mod files to fix many of the issues and I'm now able to play a town for multiple generations without it dying off because of the EA bugfest messing things up and my sims will get married or have babies though I have to play rotationally like TS2 to get that town to progress and grow over time.I also won't face routing issues from a town being overpopulated and overcrowded too suddenly as I have control over the population like Sims 2.
  • Wow. Awesome discussion here and a lot of insight. :)

I was never afraid of mods because anything that would enhance gameplay always excited me! However I did learn the hard way of going on a mod shopping spree and not checking them out first, so I'm very very careful now.

    My advice: Backup everything!!!

Back up (copy) your entire Sims 3 Folder without mods to a separate location on your computer, then add mods in to the game and see how you like playing with them. If anything causes trouble, you can remove the mod you know is the culprit OR, just add your clean, backed up Sims 3 Folder back in to replace it. Voila! :)

Backing up has saved my towns and simmies so many times I've lost count and will be forever grateful for doing so. :relieved:

So yeah don't be afraid to give some mods a try. Backing up your folders will give you peace of mind. <3
  • Never used Mods or CC. I think they serve as valuable additions to the game but I lack the necessary tech skills to install and use them properly :)

As for lag I think you can expect some even with a decent computer. The lag on mine has been better since I got the local computer tech to sort out the refresh rate. There are plenty of people on this site who can help you sort out your refresh rate when you get your new computer. That should help keep your new graphics card safe :)
