I know, I get attached to sims also. But The Sims doesn't have an end. What constitutes success is left to the player to decide. Maybe your definition of success is having sims cool enough to get attached to. Or you like grinding out skills and getting rich.
Being a citizen of the first world, I've thought about this situation. I have two immortal sims I've recently joined together in one save. I'm attached to these sims and I want them to have children. Here's my plan for managing my sims. I think I will not be giving everyone immortality in this save. I've really been leaning into the supernatural style play in my games for awhile. One sim is a witch and the other is a mad scientist. Both are alchemists and have their own Blessed Sarcophagus. When I want to shift my focus to the next generation, I'll use elixirs to turn them into mummies and put them into their sarcophagus. Mummies will sleep indefinitely in them and if long enough, will be human when they step out. If I ever miss them, I'll just wake them up at night when the generational family is sleeping and go out on the town. Maybe a vacation. Then I'll put them to sleep again. I might get attached to other sims in the future but I'll probably just let them die anyway because between my two immortal sims, they have the skills to bring other sims back to life. If I miss that sim, I'll just let them live again. Hopefully this will cycle a lot of interesting sims, interactions, and situations into my current save. I'm amusing myself thinking about the story possibilities of a family whose ancestors have the peculiar habit of not always staying dead.
