If you want happy sims then you have to feed them well. Cooking and gardening are favourite skills for my sims and you are likely to find a natural cook and green thumb sim in each of my households. Most ingredients are therefore home grown. It's cheaper and produces better quality food.
Ice cream makers and deep fat fryers do make it into my kitchen as long as the household doesn't go mad and the children start filling up on junk food. Bbqs are enjoyed and for the adults there are the occasional restaurant meals. If they visit festivals then treats are allowed and if they live in Bridgeport the consumption of cocktails whilst out clubbing is permitted. For those away at University use of the drinks fountain has been known ;) ;) because what the parent sim doesn't know won't hurt them. Besides the parent sim probably did the same :D :D overall though the coffee shop where you can get cake is preferred.
On the whole then the sims seem fairly happy with existing meal arrangements but who knows what kind of midnight feasts go on when I am not around. Probably full of pizzas, burgers and popcorn !!
Lovely idea for a poll OP :)
