Tamijo1444 I use the relativity mod in my Sunset Valley save to make the days twice as long, since you mentioned you used it while we were still at ye olde forum, however I'm thinking about stopping to use it since I feel like it slows thngs down a little to much. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. About writing a story, I sometimes (or often, maybe..) struggle to pick out which scenes are relevant since I don't really have a plan for the story in advance - which is my goal, much like you, to have the sims be autonomous and then see what happens.. it's an idea that appeals to me, but I guess it has its downsides. The alternative would be to have everything planned out before I play, but I don't like that idea.
I like the introduction of each character. Hehe, I wonder what illegal business that janitor does on the side. 😛
Seems a little harsh to kick the girls with babies out from the orphanage as soon as they turn 20 whereas there is no age limit for anyone else as long as they don't have a family. It's your game, your rules of course, I'm just wondering about that one. 😛
Also, you got some mods on that list which I have never heard of, and I better not ask because I probably should not any more mods to my game.. 😛
Yeah, it figures that Nicklaus would work at an abandoned warehouse... 😉
NikkeiSimmer I'm careful (or try to be careful) to figure out where the sun sets and rises in each town since I place everything on a map. It creates a more believable universe. I use this mod for different sun up and down times too. I see now that it has an updated version (since 2024). I may check that out once I return to my desktop computer. 😛
...or you could try Retuner like Tamijo suggested. I didn't know about that option. I'm late to the party.
DivinylsFan Can't remember seeing a specific setting for sun up/down times or locations in CAW. One would instead need to decide which direction is north before creating the map. Then create the geography from there. Is it an east/west/north or south coast town, etc.
---
What I would like to see on this topic is a mod that changes the maximum height (angle) of the sun in the sky (no idea if it's possible), because the further north (or south) you get, this height will change. At the equator the sun will be directly overhead at its highest point, but if you're at the north (or south) pole (as an example...) the sun (in summer) will stay put at a 23,5 degree angle. It won't rise or set at all. 😉 And of course, in winter it will always be below the horizon and there will be darkness 24/7. 😛
Where I live, far to the north, the sun is never directly overhead. It is almost up 24/7 during summer and is only up for about an hour at minimum during winter.

Thanks 😊
Must admit Nicklaus was casted as the black sheep of the story, but besides choosing the “wrong job”, have been quite nice so far.
Regarding making the day twice as long. It fits by story well, as my in-game day is a story month. It gives me time to see many small autonomous stories unfold, within the same gameday. In any case I believe EA is too fast, so if i did a "directed" playthrough, with fewer "main" characters, I would still slow it down, maybe 30-40% in stead of 100.
Just a mention of some good mods, playing auto: Consigner: add possibility to sell more different types of stuff in the consignment store. Dresser: allows them to dress “as they feel like” 😅without direction. Register: allows town-sims to work in roles otherwise attended by NPC. No Free Work Performance: make inactive sims more similar to active, no free salary or promotions. Fridge Mod: They can only make a dish, if they have the necessary ingredients. OnceRead: they only autonomously select books they haven't read already. GetDrunk: (or Sims Drink) simulate them being drunks.

Interesting. I thought I had the "No Free Work Perfomance" mod, but browsing through my folder it turns out I have an outdated mod which does the same thing, but is called "No Free Perfomance" (without the "Work"). So I might replace it with the newer version, test it and see how it goes. I should probably also organize my mods folder even a little bit better. 😉
I may consider the Dresser mod, but I think not.. I don't necessarily want sims to change their outfits (as in, actually change what goes into their outfits) all on their own. It's not valid for all sims, but some of my sims I have specific ideas on what their appearance is, and I don't want them to change it without my input. 😉
*edit: Actually, the "No Free Work Perfomance" mod is only called that on the NRAAS site. Once downloaded the .package file is called "ani_NoFreePerfomance" and was last changed on 07.09.2012 19:04, so it turns out the version I had wasn't as outdated as I thought... I already have the latest version.- Tamijo14441 month agoSeasoned Adventurer
I completely understand that you won't use Dresser, I only do so to see how crazy things may or may not turn out.

I remember one of the guides, tutorials or instructions talked about creating where the sun sets for example over the water. I don't know which one. Its a long time ago. Probably whichever one was recommended or came with it whenever it was I started playing. 2017-ish. I don't remember it talking about times, but if there's ways to change where it is, I'm speculating possibilities of modding when, however I wouldn't try. Regular CAW was enough of a frazzle for me.
Yep I and I imagine that's what Karritz was talking about with the different geographies, seasons, solstices, tilt of the Earth and its orbit path around the sun affecting where and when its seen. I like that Swedish show Bonus Family ... one episode they had a school celebration of the end of the long night (s?) time of year, also the Danish show Rita had an episode of the school children doing some performance about it, and an angel-type figure involved. I've rewatched those two shows many times.
And then there's eclipses eh. There is a meteor incident that happens in the game, which if I remember righty creates a big shadow for a while. When I had one, it hit the police station in Sunset Valley. One of my sims was working there and came out singed. Everyone did. I think someone may have even died. Its in my Studio memory stories. Now that was a cute save, I wonder if I've still got it somewhere ... one of their sons married one of the Bunch girls into the family ... I'm too stuck what to do with the overcrowded kids in my Emma and Homer one. Maybe I should delete all the non original kids whose parents haven't got the Surrounded by Family LTW. Its an unpleasant phrasing of the action in Master Controller.
Anyway ...
